Thanks also Mike for your reply.

I like the set host variable solution- Birgitta suggested the same.

I’m not sure my current client would thank me for writing sql functions...

But with regard to CLOBs - I am storing the JSON in CLOBs as the biggest
message could exceed 32K. I think the largest message I’ve put through so
far was about 1.5MB but it all seems to work pretty well.

Hmm yes I see your point.
I was also worried about SQLCode ( I said SQLState in my previous email
but I meant SQLCode which is not coming back as 0 but it IS > 0 so maybe
I’m worrying unduly.

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to look at this.

Best Regards.

No worries Buck :-)

Are you also getting a bad Sqlstate and the odd pointer message i
mentioned
in the joblog?

SQLSTATE 0169F, but I hesitate to call it 'bad'. It's accurately
telling us that the JSON is malformed. The '01' class is a warning.

I am getting the pointer messages too.

Message ID . . . . . . : C2M1212 Severity . . . . . . . : 30

Message . . . . : The pointer parameter passed to free or realloc is
not valid.

Message type . . . . . : Diagnostic
From . . . . . . . . . : BUCK CCSID . . . . . . . . : 65535

From program . . . . . . . . . : QC2UTIL3
From library . . . . . . . . : QSYS
From module . . . . . . . . : QC2HYPSP
From procedure . . . . . . . : send_message__FiPvUi
From statement . . . . . . . : 54

To program . . . . . . . . . . : QSQJSON2

It's working properly from the SQL perspective, but it does throw
messages into the job log. FWIW other SQL warnings also throw messages
into the job log, so I suspect it's working as intended as far as IBM
are concerned.
