Just as follow-up. I assumed you were using SQL embedded in RPG, since
this is the RPG list.
If not, you need to explain more what you are trying to do.
If so, then you probably don't need SQLDA, since the pre-compiler will
take care of generating the code to move the data into your variables.
SQLDATA should really be a data structure in your program (if selecting
several fields) and you should name it something else. Avoid naming
variables starting with SQL).
The field SQLDATA in the SQLDA is not what you need to be looking at
when using embedded SQL in RPG.

exec sql fetch first from c1 into :SQLDATA
so SQL knows where to put the data.
