I think he wants to do something like

select *
from server1.lib1.tab1
join server2.lib2.tab2

In which case, no nothing has really changed.

The exception is that you can now do
create table locallib.localtbl
as (select * from remotesvr.remotelib.remotetbl)

directing within DB2 for i, ARDgate not needed.

A long time ago, we looked at ArdGate for JDBC access from RPGLE. At the
time, we had to disconnect from DB2 in order to access a different
database, which was a complete show-stopper. In a couple of weeks, we'll be
upgrading to 7.3, and I'm wondering if that obstacle still remains.

there has never been an "obstacle"!

you could have used "set connection" to switch between databases since the
very first day of ArdGate and this will be unchanged until the final death
of AS400 and DB2 on AS400 (or whatever they call it today and might call it
tomorrow).
