Hmm. At the International Printing Museum (where I spend my Saturdays), we routinely operate presses that are well over a century old, and linecasting equipment that's nearly half a century old.

(And Ottmar Mergenthaler, the inventor of the Linotype, was using binary codes to sort the matrices back in an era when a digital computer was a guy counting on his fingers!)
