Right, the DDS values list is only picked up if you reference the database field in display file DDS. RPG, SQL, etc., are completely unaware of it. I got bitten by this 30 years ago on the S/38, and it’s still true today.

Unfortunately, your understanding is not correct.
The only way to enforce this is with constraints.
