I would now think of XMLSERVICE as a system standard service since it's
now packaged and shipped with the i-OS formerly known as OS400 No ?
That might make it middleware yet not middleware :-)

isn't it because XMLSERVICE is the middleware original written by YiP,
Zend and IBM?

wrapper for XMLSERVICE and I'm currently working on a .Net Core

The good thing is as you mentioned there is no real middleware
required with a service like XMLSERVICE.
