Are you arguing using service programs (or whatever a call to external
resources are called)
are obsolete?

If so, take a tour in the node.js world of NPM's or just node.js world of
build in modules that
you have to require() to use them.

node.js/npm are very similar to install cgidev2 or httpapi and use them in
rpgle while node.js/
internal modules are very similar to what we find and use in QC2LE

The only difference is that a node.js environment and modules only require
the node.js VM
to run on any platform.

My argument would build on yours, Buck. In my opinion, design constraints
of the 80s, 90s, and 00s required certain frameworks. Updating program by
program maintains that archaic framework and thus shops pay the price to
get new code but are stuck with design parameters that can hamstring the
improvements. Going back later and updating the framework doesn't solve
the problem.

Its all a dance.

I am not arguing that I need to rewrite every bit of code I come
across. I'm arguing that CC..CC..B is used too often, and that
analysing that code/before/ copying it happens even less. That's how
so many programs became fragile monoliths. In my opinion.
