My post will not help you, ... but many, many, many moons ago I worked
on MAPICS on the S38 and was tasked with writing an Indented, Costed Bil
Of Materials report.
(We called it the ICBM).
And whenever the job blew up there were jokes a-plenty! :)

Can you share what the application software is that you may be using?
The answer may already be on your system

I need to determine the maximum number of a given item number we can make
based on current inventory level of the components.
I have a program that can explode the BOM using a recursive call and Ican
easily take the components it comes up with & see how many we have. The
issue becomes when one of the components is a sub-assembly.
Example:
level Item Qty per
1 9672-02 1.000
.2 5156 1.000
.2 4993 1.000
We may only show 1 of the 9672-02 on-hand, but we have enough of the 5156
and 4993 to make 10. So we potentially have a qty of 11 of 9672-02 (1
currently in inventory + 10 that we could make).
The sub-assemblies may have sub-assemblies which complicates this even
further.
Anyone ever tackled this type of logic?
