Is the NALAST field a variable length also? If not, that is probably your problem. You may need to also trim NALAST in the where clause.

Objet : Re: AW: Embedded RPG and the WHERE LIKE

Lots of good answers. Thanks Birgitta, Vern, Peter, Brian, Mike, and M Price.

However....
Smi% works. %mit% works. %ith does not work. Further testing shows that Smith does not work either. It would seem to me that these would all work or, none?

The code is:
...
d wSRCHLAST s 35 varying
...
wSRCHLAST = %trim(SRCHLAST);
...
where NALAST like :wSRCHLAST
...

By the way, glad I asked about case sensitive. "exec sql set option SRTSEQ = *LANGIDSHR;" seems to have rung that bell. Thanks for that suggestion.

I assume there are trailing blanks in your original field that are not
trimmed off.
If you specify '%ith' exactly the last 3 characters in your original
field have to be ith.

You may try WHERE RTrim(YourColumn) like '%ith'

Or WHERE Right(RTrim(YourColumn), 3) = 'ith'
