The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
all a subroutine could do, can be done by a subprocedure (PR/PI) too.
additional features and benefits of subprocedures:
- local variables
- parms and returnparm
- prototypes are checked at compiletime against usage of parms
- procedures could be exported
- with exported procedures you have multiple entry points for a module
As a conclusion of all this, I would recommend to handle subprocedures as
deprecated and don't write anymore of these. If you have to change some
subprocedure think about replacing it by a subprcedure, but there is no need
to replace untouched subroutines.
- Be carefull with exporting procedures, do not expose integrity of your
modules to everyone.
- don't change parameter interfaces of exported procedures.
