Buck pointed-out my error - 'om01 should be 'om01' - thanks Buck - and a re-run returns:
SQL5016 Qualified object name DISPLAY_JOURNAL not valid.<
Which, to me, confirms no TR7 . . . and so the Sun sets here in Mudville . . .

Thanks Vern!
Display Licensed Program shows: V7R1M0 for most all LP
I'm pretty sure our production lpar is >not< up to TR7
The following Statement, in STRSQL returns:
"Token DL was not valid. Valid tokens: ) "
But I'm not seeing my error . . .
the following Statement:
SELECT journal_code, journal_entry_type, object, object_type, X.*
FROM TABLE (qsys2.Display_Journal('basjrns1','basjrn','','',
CAST(null AS TIMESTAMP),CAST(null AS DECIMAL(21,0)),'','',
'basdbs1','om01','*FILE','om01,'','','LCP950R')) AS x
WHERE journal_entry_type in ('DL', 'PT','PX', 'UP')
AND "CURRENT_USER" > ' '

Two other ways to see journal entries are available, as well
DISPLAY_JOURNAL() UDTF
Journal viewer in the new web-based Navigator

Look for the links related to journals

If the table is journaled, using the journal to analyse the problem would be the best option. The effort would be minimal to direct theentries to an outfile, restructure the entdta (there is an utility ANZJRN at my – sorry german – open source site) and using interactive SQL to see what happened.
