Justin, I think the main link was about passing a file name by reference - as opposed to data contents by way of a "large object"

Any chance your program can use SQL to query the data you need ?
SQL is the link we often use "between servers/platforms": for example we query an MS SQL database on a win-tell server to
get info from a robotic picking system in one of our warehouses . . .

The files are for input only, nothing gets written back to the Windows share.
Having the external app put the files on the IFS isn't an option.

Those links appear to be talking about passing F-specs between RPGLE programs, not stream files.
