Nowadays, I think most people prefer qualified data structures.
However, if that's not what you were looking for, maybe you were
thinking of externally described data structures. I haven't tried
using a display file record for this purpose, so I don't know if it
would work; but I didn't find any language in the manual which says it
won't work on display files. Give it a shot. You will almost
definitely need the EXTNAME keyword (so that you can specify a
particular record format within the file).
