Probably simpler to create a duplicate array containing a converted version of the text and the original element number and then sort that. Anything else will result in repeated conversions as each element pair is compared. And that would be a lot of conversions.

Many moons ago I had to explore a similar problem and ultimately this turned out to be the best/safest approach. Part of the reason is that using ALSEQ affects a number of different operations not just SORTA. But it doesn’t affect everything you might expect. The RPG manual lists all the opcodes actually affected.
