There are a couple of options.

I used to have a very business critical application that needed this functionality. I used Aaron Bartell's RPGtoDesktop http://mowyourlawn.com/RPGToDesktop.html

Split the task into two pieces. First, invoke the command, then use RPGtoDesktop to invoke the Windows FTP client to download as part of the file creation job.

Better yet, if applicable, start the process on the IBM-i and use RPGtoDesktop to invoke the Windows FTP client.

Or, install an FTP server on the Windows box and just push the file from the IBM-i. You can use the (optional) built-in IIS version or a 3rd party product. I like BulletProof FTP Server.

There other ways - looping waiting for a "sentinel" to tell you the job is done, but that gets really convoluted. If the application lends itself to it, I would go with BulletProof FTP server on the Windows box and control everything else from the "i".

Subject: Run remote process from FTP client and wait until it's finished to download output
Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2015 21:53:14 +0000

Good afternoon folks,

I have spent much too long looking for this specific issue out there, but I figure in this list somebody has done it before...

I need to use a Windows-7 script on a Windows server that runs FTP script(s) to

(1) run a process on the "IBM I" that generates a file, and then

(2) download that file.

The remote program is run using the FTP command:

quote rcmd CALL PGMLIB/PROGRAM

It appears that the script runs the next line without waiting for the program to finish.
Is there a way to make it wait?

I have the remote call running now in one FTP script, which the windows batch file runs, and then it runs the download FTP download script in the next line.

Thanks
Alan
