The long awaited Redbook on RPG Modernization is finally here. It is a somewhat daunting work, and it shows the the dedication of the assembled people who struggled to give it birth.
I will save most of my comments for when the website opens for comments. My first two are here. . .
Some of the examples show poor style or a style that provokes arguments, like Example 7.2 where indicators are constructed with a purpose_name and a Indicator-Nbr - - in most cases, this style point would start an argument, but at least the intent is clear. And I support it's use in the redbook.
Chapter 3.2.2 on Single Responsibility, High Cohesion , Loose Coupling and DRY is something all programmers should already know, but might not.
But if IBM is going to spoon feed you this basic knowledge, then DRY should be spelled out there, too. It's spelled D.R.Y. Don't Repeat Yourself.
