Closing the cursor you open over the prepared statement should release
it. Do you have some code (or pseudo code)?

From one of my quick and dirty reporting program over multiple libraries
where I prepare a new query for each library.

exec sql prepare badqry from :@Sql;
exec sql Declare BadCsr scroll cursor for BadQry;
exec sql Open BadCsr;
exec sql Fetch Next from BadCsr into :@Mhexds;
If Sqlcod = 0;
Dow Sqlcod = 0;
Except #Bad;
exec sql Fetch Next from BadCsr into :@Mhexds;
Leave;
EndDo;
EndIf;
exec sql Close BadCsr;

Subject: Embedded SQL in RPGLE

I am testing a program that is using embedded SQL in RPGLE. I user the
PREPARE statement for a dynamic selection. Everything is fine the first
time through but on the second attempt I get the error "Prepared
statement STR1 in use."

Does anyone know how to release the prepared statement identifier. The
manual says that the identifier stays until explicitly released, but the
RELEASE statement is not what they are talking about and I can't find
any other reference to releasing the identifier.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks,

Marvin
