I know this is an old thread, but if IBM is reading ....

I mostly agree with Dan & Scott, but I (also) don't want to see line numbers & line commands go away. I've been burnt too many times by the unreliability of cut/paste operations which depend upon highlighting text. For example, a slight movement of the mouse while you're clicking in a new window is too easily perceived as a drag, deselecting the source you may trying to copy. Line commands stay where you type them! :-)

I agree with pretty much everything you said here, though I do not use the "wonderful Java editors" you reference.

Especially the enter key breaking the line -- this drives me up the friggin' wall.
