For generating XML also take a look at XMLi and also the XML procedures in powerExt.

I just wrote an article on XMLi and found it much easier to use and more powerful than CGIDEV2 - which was not designed for the job. I was (I think) the first person to publish on the use of CGIDEV2 for XML generation http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/developer/rpg/Using-CGIDEV2-for-Generating-XML/

You can find the new article here http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/developer/rpg/xmli/

What the article doesn't really get into is that the XMLi API approach supports the concurrent generation of up to 256 separate XML streams (not sure about the template version - but that probably does too). This can be really useful when you need to include summary data and have it appear earlier in the document than the details.

Vern, apparently raw .xml, the template file they sent opens and is readable in notepad.

And, after reading some xml-into stuff, it looks like that is more for parsing
than populating. Yes, a cgidev2 solution is growing, slowly in the back of my mind.

Do they want the raw XML? Not compressed? Or, as another post asked, do they want the XLSX?

If the raw XML, you could set up the layout for use with CGIDEV2 - very simple to write
the stuff that way from RPG.
