There may not be anyone here who can answer that Glenn - but in theory they should be identical.

But since RPG translates to W-code and from there to MI-prime and from there (eventually via the microcode) to machine instructions - well it is such a long haul that do we really care?

You're optimizing at way too low a level if you're worrying about this.
