Did you check whether GET DIAGNOSTICS returns the message text you want?

Exec SQL Execute Immediate :DynStm;
If SQLCODE < *Zeros;
Exec SQL Get Diagnostics Condition 1 :ErrMsg = MESSAGE_TEXT;
EndIf;

BTW do you really need dynamic SQL for this?

Betreff: embedded sql record lock during update question

my SQLRPGLE program does the following:

dynstm = 'update file set dt = current date'
exec sql execute immediate :dynstm;

if the sqlcod is nether 0 or 100, an example of the joblog contains the
following:

Record 615374 in use by job 452249/XEDK/XXXB1.
Row or object FILE inTESTFIL type *FILE in use.

i'd like to retrieve the message(s) from the joblog and display it
somewhere, but not sure how to do this.
