Back to the OP.... (Why RPG and not CoBOL)
My final exam in school, many moons ago, was: Write a program that produced
the specified report. If you were one character off in the data positioning
of the report, you fail. We were given the input specs and sample data and
the output specs on the old "printer spacing charts".
Knowing RPG II and CoBOL (system 36) about the same, I chose to write it in
RPG. I was completely done in 15 minutes. Since this was a 5 hour exam...
I then wrote it in CoBOL. That took a half hour due to all the extra
typing.
If you like typing... Choose CoBOL. I prefer RPG.
Note: I turned in the RPG program to the proctors.
