Have you checked to make sure the READPE was successful? Perhaps your key on record 1 does not quite match the key on record 2.
READPE has no reason not to work if your code is correct.

Is there any issues with using a data structure with a READPE?
I've run into a situation where on the readPE its not reading the first record.
IE: I loop through the file for a key, it finds the first record and then reads the second record, I then execute a READPE with the same key but the file pointer never moves back.
