I am using a Date Field (Data Type = L) on a display file and don't
understand why date separator characters do not appear after a
new date value is typed in the field and Enter is pressed.

The program defaults a date value during *INZSR processing, and the
first screen does show the date with separator characters.

After that, however, entering a valid mmddyy date with or without separator
characters is accepted by the program, but separator characters are never
"inserted" if they are not entered.

The display file date field is defined as:

A C1DDAT L B 3 25DATFMT(*MDY) DATSEP(*JOB)

Job attributes are:

Date format . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *MDY
Date separator . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : /
