My testing has said 30 to 40% performance improvement(cycle, LR = *On)
on an unloaded test box but that is going to vary with the load.

You only win a little bit on performance and you don't win much on
program size either. For me, the most compelling reason to use a linear
main is that all your RPG procedures look the same, except that one of
them is designated as the first procedure to be called when the program
is called.

The other big benefit is that a linear main procedure can be called
recursively. Prior to being able to code a linear main, you could sort
of get recursion using actgrp(*new), or you could have a CL or C pep
module that called your RPG subprocedure.
