A lot XML generators generate all tags with or without data. I had
problems with XML record sizes and I wrote a front end program to remove
all empty tags (unless they were needed by my logic) and that eliminated
almost all of my XML record issues. The same might help with
performance issues. I was reducing XML documents from about 150-175k to
just over 50k. All of the empty tags are usually just unneeded
overhead.
