Aborting a trigger efficiently is easy. The trick would be for IBM to provide a byte in a file structure that stops it from firing.

We use a blackboard service program. The trigger program calls a function to check a global variable. If this is OFF then no trigger processing is done. This variable is set/unset by a function called by the process which wishes to suspend / reactivate the trigger processing.
