If PGB_B is a batch job, then it can update the LDA without affecting
PGM_A's LDA.

People are afraid that PGM_B will step on the LDA fields created by PGM_A
thus causing PGM_C to barf. Which, as I gather, is what Jon is afraid of
since the package uses the LDA extensively. Even if Jon could discern
what
positions of the LDA are *currently* unused, the next software update from
the vendor might use some of those positions.

If one is in control of the software and, ergo, the LDA's definition this
should not be a problem. But you know programmers: "Documentation" is a
dirty word so it either doesn't get done or it doesn't get updated.

Someone remind me what's so hateable about the *LDA, especially as in this
case, if it were possible, it would be perfect!

It is a unique set of info for each _job_ and is updated by a single
program.

_If_ I could use the LDA (much as I hate it) it would be perfect because
it is carried into any batch jobs fired off by the web or 5250 job. But I
can't use the LDA.
