Hi all,

Are there any good books on SQLRPG or documentation that is available for those who want to learn it?

Thanks,

Arthur

Why would you care?  You can just ignore them.  It does predefine the fields
for you which I see as an advantage.

If you use EXTNAME, how can you tell the compiler to ignore fields that you
might not want to deal with?

Thanks, Jack

Jack,

I have no idea what the "most common way" is. Personally I code my own D
specs but I've seen other approaches such as using EXTNAME, etc.

Thanks Bruce.

Didn't even think of a join.  Works great.

What is the most common way of defining the fields rnrule and
ruledesc?  I have "D" specs with hardcoded lengths now.

Jack

Exec SQL Declare C1 cursor for
  Select t.rnRule, r.RuleDesc
  from  shprules t
        join Rules r
          on r.rnRule = t.rnRule
  where t.rnShipper = :svShipper;

I'm trying to learn SQLRPG and am struggling with syntax and concepts.

I've been able to do a SELECT of multiple records with a cursor
following examples on the web.

Within the select loop, how can I fetch one row from another file?

This is the beginning of my "loop"

EXEC SQL

                  Declare  C1 Cursor for

                      Select rnRule from shprules as t

                      where rnShipper = :svShipper;

how can I  use rnRule to fetch a description from table rules?

Thanks in advance.

Jack
