And just to waste a little more time, you could have used an alpha field as well:

CurDateA = %editc( %dec( %date(): *MDY): 'Y');

That's especially good if you want to put blanks or other alpha values for special conditions.

All points well taken. Thank you all for the responses.

For the archive, my final solution was to define a 6-long numeric (CurDateN)
and do:

CurDate = %date();
CurDateN = %dec( CurDate : *MDY );

And then used edit code "Y" in the output.


I probably could have combined into one statement, like:
CurDateN = %dec( %date() : *MDY );


Probably wasted too much time on this, but it was really irritating me.
