Hi Joe,
Feature or bug... don't worry, we have the same idea about it, but as I said many companies get fooled by the Microsoft marketing and cheap initial costs, but don't realize what it means for the upcoming years (both in software and even hardware). The fact that many iSeries customers didn't invest (in technology and training), but just kept the business running makes the comparison even harder.
Further I do agree with Hendrik that with web 2.0 (and things like Ext JS, EGL, ... ) we have the capabilities now to provide a similar user experience as with Microsoft... but be honest and make a guess about the percentage of IBM i customers that know about these capabilities, and invest in it (rather than again getting convinced to go for a cheap Microsoft solution).
I don't want to start a Microsoft vs. IBM debate with this, but we have to face reality... and that is that they're winning market share.
Kind regards,
Paul

If you look at Microsoft, they force their customers every few years a major rewrite so the product remains sexy (if customers realize the cost of this is again another discussion).
I'm just not going to argue this, Paul. If you consider the above
statement a feature rather than a bug, then we have a different
perspective on the role of computers in business.
Related to your article... I'm afraight that we only fool ourselves, and omitting C# and Microsoft in it is not really realistic as they're killing us much faster (mainly based on marketing than acutal strengths) than Java or PHP alike tools.
Who omitted C#? TIOBE tracks C# just fine. It's just that I was
talking about scripting languages, which C# most definitely is not. I
most definitely did not want to write another Microsoft vs. IBM
screed... we get enough of that on this list. ;)
