Simple approach would be to change the FREE to a call to an RPG400 program that does nothing but do the FREE.
Re Bruce's comment - use the compiler listing directive to list the MI will show what the RPG400 generates for FREE.
Reason FREE isn't supported is that for the most part it doesn't actually work - so trying to duplicate something that sorta-kinda works sometimes just wasn't a viable option.
