I would love to see the cost justification for this. When you say intel is it IBM intel blades and what OS? Still going to run DB2 and Websphere on Intel or are you moving that also?
I see no way to justify this. I recently was forced to more ONE system off a 520 with two processors and one OS that runs dozens of other systems and had to get 7 intel servers running a total of 28 processors and additional network switching capacity to connect them all. And then to get a decent bare-metal backup plan in place you have to add VMWare on top for even more expense. I don't mind the move to java from RPG for new development but why the move to a new platform

Subject: Helas another nail in the RPG coffin
We are one of this countries larger AS400 installations. I heard yesterday that we are going to migrate to Intel technology. Why ? RPG ?
This is a problem for some of our prospects who would prefer Java based solutions but the main reason is the AS400 which is too expensive thus rendering us less competitive. The migration will take some time , but all new stuff on theAS400 is now developed in Java so as to ease the migration burden later on.
