Perhaps you can give more info on the type of industry you are in. In my
experience, a SQL server based solution is more expensive overall.
There are pros and cons. With SQL server you can offshore work cheaper but
you have to be carefull on that.
The AS/400 engine performs better than SQL server imo. There are really many
variables it would be interesting to know more about your installation,.
Having worked in both worlds, I am not committed to either one.
