I'm with you Timothy, I have been using ASSUME with a "dummy" format for
some time with little understanding, but I
did find some help in a thread on IT Knowledge Exchange:
The original design intention seems to be for an application where a 5250
display would be started by one program
and then continued or taken over by another. In later versions of
the iSeries the concept of a window seems
to have relied on some of the earlier 5250 technology.
In this light, your window format is trying to over-write an existing
format and you may not want that. Kevin Vandever's article
that Albert suggested covers this better than I can.
