This works:

R FMT01 SFLCTL(SFL1)
90 SFLDSP SFLDSPCTL
N90 SFLCLR
...
* Clear subfile.
C eval *in90 = *off
C write FMT01
C eval *in90 = *on

The value of RRN is irrelevant to the clearing operation.

(Is the issue that SFLDSP is not also conditioned by your indicator?)
