Regarding your original post, if you "enclose" your statement in a MONITOR
group, you could confirm if the year is valid (opposed to "right", of
course).

Or are you trying to calculate what DAY (mon, tue, wed,
etc..) the 1st fell on for that year?

If not, I don't understand why you need a calculation at
all. Why not just concatenate the year onto 01.01.?

Sorry, I should have said, I'm getting a year passed to me and I need to
fill a date field with jan 1st of the year received.
