Hi,

We will have an application library, eg, APPLIB where all the principal programs that make up an application reside. Each APPLIB will have a CLP CHGLIBPGM that does nothing but set the library list. This CLP will always be called from a menu so that the application cannot run before the correct library list has been set up. For batch jobs, each APPLIB also has a JOBD with the same library list as CHGLIBPGM.

When library lists need to be modified during the running of the application, we use a command that saves the library list first, then restores it immediately after completing the task that needed a change in the library list.

Objet : Preventing Programs from using TEST files

We discovered a problem today that occurred because a
production program was adding a test library to the library
list. This wasn't a major problem until we added a copy of a
file used by that program to said test library.
Unknown to us until today, that production program was using
the test file instead of the production one. We have fixed
everything now, but I am looking for suggestions on to how to
prevent this from happening again. At the very least I want
to know what "best practices" are recommended to prevent this
sort of problem.

Thanks,
Matt
