Sure wish IBM would have updated the old "Application Development by
Example" manual.  VERY out of date but the way they stepped you through
the process was outstanding.  I'm sure attempts to update it would result
in debates like:
- why DDS and not DDL?
- why 5250 and not web?
- why SEU and not RDP?

I would argue that IBM will NEVER update that manual.
Think about it for a moment....that manual allowed thousands of non-IBM programmers to develop 5250 applications in a consistent manner.
*
As a result, IBM sold a lot of hardware (S/36, S/38 and AS400)  They dominated midrange hardware.
At sometime, IBM decided that services were more profitable than hardware.
*
Today, IBM refuses to simplify development on the iSeries, Series i, (whatever it is currently called) because it would undermine their plan of taking over a company's services.

Any comments??
And yes, I am prepared for the accusations that I must be a lazy, /dumb or inept programmer because I don't find this new world of SQL, HTLM, PHP, CSS, AJAX, and web services and more
