I doubt that Johnny Mathis' "The Twelfth of Never" could be called a
folk song, Michael.

Luis and Don are right. Quinn Insurance is in the UK and Ireland where
dates are usually formatted DMY. I do the same thing when writing it
out (14 December 2009) but stick to MDY for the short form (12-14-
2009). The hardest translation (for either type of user) is when the
day is <= 12.

That's why I use abbreviated month names, usually opting for the dd-Mon-yyyy
format. I've never had someone say they're confused about what 14-Dec-2009
meant.
