You could try the %SCAN() BIF. The x'09' should be a tab, but you might want
to double check that though.

I would run the program in debug and display the hex for that line. Maybe
that will give you some pointers.

Re-thinking, it probably should be %trimr(%trim(itemNumber) : x'09').
There's probably a good chance the item actually ends in white space.
