'stringPtr' is a pointer, so it should have a value that looks something like that. In order to see the data, you need to dereference the point (that is, view contents of the memory to which the pointer points).

Dereferencing in RPG is accomplished by using a based variable. In your case, both 'chars' and 'ucs2' dereference stringPtr.
