Is there any way to create an index over a view?

Nope... and why would you want to?
(Actually I can think of a couple of reasons you'd want to, but I don't believe you can do it on i)

IMO the most obvious reason, is to enable ISAM versus SQL access to the data via a logical format with the encapsulated selection *and* a predefined order. That is, to enable access from non-SQL HLL methods, just as what is provided by DDS created logical files; already an option from the SQL non-EVI INDEX. And for that, it may make more sense on i than elsewhere. However for the equivalent capability as from the INDEX and DDS Keyed [unique] LF [albeit often only for read-only], the request to OPNQRYF KEYFLD() UNIQUE() may suffice to enable that access, combined with OVRDBF SHARE(*YES). And so it is on topic, HLL of course includes RPG.
