If the report program does not do things like update, then re-ordering the
report may not be difficult. You would have to make changes in
RPG as well as however the file go sorted.
However, what you asked for - to process the spool file
CPYSPLF command will write a spool file into a flat text file on the system.
Usually CRTPF a work file with length 133 and then CPYSPLF
into it.
There are some tricks to getting the spool file number and other parms
needed for CPYSPLF.
It may be much easier to write a work file from existing print program,
sort it how you want, and then print.
Is this RPG & CLP (and perhaps opnqryf or fmtdta) or RPG36 and OCL or what?

Subject: e-Arranging a spool file
HI I have a report that is printing by Invoice number. It is used as a kind
of picking/packing sheet by the warehouse. What they would like would be to
print the report by Model number for efficiency.
Since this is an old cycle RPG report I am hesitant to change the structure
of the program. I would rather look at the spool file and get the model
number and redo the order.
I was wondering if this is an easy task to do.
The other option I guess would be to add a work file to the program and as a
separate report print the recap of what is needed to be picked. But I think
they would prefer not to be cluttered with yet another stack of papers.
