ok...but how about chains using KLISTs? you still can't distinguish
between those and an RRN chain (not that i use KLIST anymore...but it's
true just the same). JMO but the compiler should be consistent on all
accounts.

Not just for subfiles! Any time you use a RRN, you can't use
parenthesis, the compiler won't allow parens for RRNs.

I think if you re-read Barbara's statement you'll see that you're
agreeing with her (here's her quote):

"I would always code the parentheses for keys, to visually
distinguish between relative-record-number chains."
