Take this next statement with a grain of salt, but you are justifying your
position based on a companies poor infrastructure decisions. If a company
is needing to combine all of those technologies for the majority of their
core business processes then they truly have had a hard time deciding what
their longterm direction is as an IT department.

Yes, but you make the assumption that there is only one well. (And that
it hasn't changed state since you went there last). What if the "well"
includes data from a screen, or SQLServer, or Oracle, or DB2 on
Mainframe, or Web Services, or XML, or IFS, or ...

Simple problems have simple solutions. complex problems.... :)
