True, and I should also say that instead of "object" I should have said
"memory". GC cleans up unused MEMORY references.

Ergo, it is NOT the language that does garbage collection in that
world, it is the runtime.

Yes.

And, FWIW, the order entry system I wrote for my uncles company (same
place I started to learn the S/36) in AppleSoft, had a similar unused
memory reference cleanup function.
