Even better, thanks. I'd copied in OVERLAY when I first created the DDS. So now I've taken away the ERASE and the OVERLAY.

SFLDSP should be *off when your subfile is empty. But you should make sure that the first format you display clears the screen, i.e. it should not have OVERLAY specified.

I think I have an idea : SFLDSP is off if there are no records in the
