I have a program that uses this kind of thing. It manages reference numbers of the sort XY00001.
X represents a product type.
Y represents a shelf position, the rest is the number on the shelf.
All occupied reference numbers are known, as they belong to the documents in that position.
When a document has to be archived, the program will find the first available reference number for a given product type.
It will start at ZA00001 ( if the product type is Z ) and scroll through all possible numbers to ZZ99999, stopping when it finds a number that is vacant. It also has to manage the fact that some numbers are prohibited, or some shelves end before 99999.
Let me know if you are interested.

Objet : Increment an alpha field by "1"
Hi list:
I have a field (7/A) that has a combination of letters and numbers. How will the code look so I can go from, ie.:
Original value: MTAA010
Target value: MTZZ990
The first character (M) and the last one (0) will never change. Just positions 2-6
All recommended strategies are welcome,
TIA!
