One piece of advice: In my option when working and customizing the package, stay within it's recommended structure. All too often I see clients modifying the code for a package and veering way off in libraries, not marking changed code, changing the code with no controls, just generally not keeping the same concept of what that package does.
I deal with a ERP package that is multi-company within the same files so it can get difficult dealing with individual company needs. Keep all this in mind not for the now but for the future when you need to upgrade releases. Dealing with one upgrade now that has been made very difficult to upgrade. Many more hours to do this than what should be because it wasn't very well thought out when they started with the package and did upgrading over the years.
I am a consultant for ERP and have done this for many years and see all kinds of stuff done on the system. Some companies can never upgrade their version because they have butchered it so badly.
Good Luck
Bill

Subject: Reflections needed on installing new RPG packages
HI If you have done an install of a new RPG based ERP system, recently,
I am interested in hearing anything in general about this install (
don't have to name the package) as far as what you learnt from the
process be it on a code level or system design, anything at all, that
you would be careful to ask about in the future.
Please feel free to reply off line.
Thank you,
Phil
